Vasantiben: Carrying Forward, With Quiet Resolve

Vasantiben Mahendra Valvi

In the village of Bhiljamboli, Vasantiben’s strength shows not in words, but in work.

At 38, she is raising two daughters while living with her father-in-law in her marital home. Since losing her husband to illness several years ago, the responsibility of sustaining the household has rested entirely on her.

Her elder daughter, after facing setbacks in school, has begun supporting the family through farming activities. Her younger daughter continues her education. Vasantiben carries a quiet hope — that both her daughters, in their own ways, will find stability and dignity in the years ahead.

There is a house with basic facilities — water, electricity, cooking gas — and farmland connected to the family, though it is registered in her father-in-law’s name. Vasantiben works as a farm labourer and participates in agricultural activities to support the household. Income depends heavily on the season, and stability is something she works toward month by month.

Yet she does not pause.

She is interested in expanding into animal husbandry and sees it as a pathway to more dependable earnings. With proper training, guidance, and financial assistance, she has the potential to build a stronger and more sustainable source of income.

She has ensured that her documentation is complete and has accessed eligible government schemes. Her parents continue to offer encouragement and support. What she seeks now is not temporary relief, but long-term security for her daughters.

What stands out about Vasantiben is not hardship.

It is accountability.

It is the steady courage of a woman who understands that resilience is not dramatic — it is daily.

She does not speak about loss.

She speaks about responsibility.

With structured support — from livelihood enhancement to strengthened welfare access — Vasantiben can move from managing uncertainty to creating opportunity.

She does not ask for sympathy.
She asks for the means to build a secure future for her daughters.

At the Smt Jayalakshmi Memorial Single Mother Foundation, we believe women like Vasantiben do not need rescue.
They need partnership.
They need pathways.
They need someone to walk beside them.
Because when a mother chooses to carry forward with dignity, her daughters learn how to shape their own futures. Our promise… no single mother walks alone. 🌿
